Who We Are & How We Began
The birth of our company is directly attributed to the background of its founder, Al Hooper, and his dedication to the maintenance, enhancement, and performance of emergency vehicles. We have built a history of expertise. We only select manufacturers with a proven track record for supplying vehicles that perform the best, have the shortest downtime, and provide years of service.
Specialty Vehicles, Inc. is truly a family-owned-and-operated business. The president, vice president, and office manager are all members of the Hooper family. Our other employees — including service technicians, salespeople, and administrators — are treated like our family, too. Everyone at our office supports a work environment dedicated to customers. We are unified in our pride for our products and professional relationships.
Our New Facility
In May 2018, Specialty Vehicles, Inc. moved to a new “state-of-the-art” facility located at 18 Commerce Boulevard in Plainville, Massachusetts.
With 5-times the square footage over the previous facility, the new facility has allowed us to expand our office space, which includes dual large conference rooms, additional offices, customer lounge and a large parts department for added inventory, all of which will enable us to better serve our customers in a more efficient manner.
The new 25,498 sq. ft. facility consists of
- 11 overhead 12’ x 14’ doors
- 5 drive-thru service bays
- Dedicated drive-thru wash / detail bay
- Dedicated lettering / graphics bay
- A separate shipping / receiving area with a large overhead door
Some other features of the new facility include: 2 mezzanines, 22’ high ceilings, full sprinkler system, 1,400 amp electrical service, 5,000 square feet of office space, and dual conference rooms. Fenced in and illuminated paved outside storage, building alarm system and full surveillance exterior camera system.
On site is an in-the-ground 20,000 gallon concrete pump test pit to allow us to expend within the testing of the fire apparatus annual pumps test in addition to testing all new apparatus delivered prior to final delivery to our customers. We have a separate, outside storage shed to house all the equipment necessary to perform all aspects of the pump testing thoroughly.
Our large shop area with drive-thru bays allows for accommodations for a minimum of twenty (20) or more vehicles inside our service facility during the various stages of prep, installation, and service. For the outside of the service facility, we can accommodate in excess of one-hundred (100) vehicles during the various stages of prep, installation, and service.
Our new location is easily accessible from Route 495, exit 15, approximately 1.3 miles from Wrentham Premium Outlet Mall.
With this new facility, SVI can continue to provide the same great sales and service on a larger more comfortable scale.
